Irregularities in Voter List in Mahadevapura Assembly Constituency
Priyank Kharge’s Revelations: Fake Addresses and Duplicate Registrations Exposed
Karnataka’s Minister for Rural Development, Panchayat Raj, and Information Technology, Priyank Kharge, alleged in a press conference that the election results in the Bangalore Central Parliamentary Constituency were influenced by an unusual increase in the voter list and fake registrations in the Mahadevapura Assembly Constituency.
Presenting data during the press conference, he stated that the Congress candidate secured 6,26,208 votes across the parliamentary constituency, while the BJP candidate received 1,58,915 votes. The margin of victory was only 32,707 votes. However, in Mahadevapura, the BJP candidate gained a lead of 1,46,046 votes, which proved decisive for the overall result.
According to Kharge, the voter list in the constituency had 6,07,755 voters during the 2023 assembly elections, but by the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, this number increased to 6,59,826—an addition of 52,575 new voters, averaging 160 new voters per day. He claimed this increase violates Election Commission norms and raises serious questions.
Kharge alleged several irregularities in the voter list, including duplicate registrations, enrollment of voters with fake addresses, acceptance of fraudulent documents such as marriage cards and fake Aadhaar cards as proof of identity, and an unusually high number of voters registered at a single address.
Citing examples, he said one individual was issued four voter cards by submitting applications on different dates, and a woman’s name was registered five times in the same booth, each with a different EPIC number. The minister claimed that 11,965 individuals were registered at multiple locations, 40,009 voters had fake addresses, and 33,692 votes were added through the misuse of Form 6. In several cases, house addresses were listed as merely “zero” or “dot.”
The Chief Minister’s legal advisor, Poonanna, stated that the Election Commission is showing reluctance in investigating this fraud and failing to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities. He alleged that the Commission’s conduct raises questions about transparency.
