In a shocking and deeply troubling incident that raises serious questions about security and accountability in government offices, an unauthorised individual was found seated in the official chair of the Sub-Registrar, Belagavi North, handling sensitive documents and operating the government system – all within the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises.
The man, later identified as the son of attender Bhimappa Alagudi, had reportedly been accessing the Sub-Registrar’s desk, issuing printouts, and even processing official land records — a role he was neither appointed to nor qualified for. Eyewitnesses and concerned staff blew the whistle after observing him repeatedly working inside the office, including after hours, raising suspicions of possible misuse and manipulation of government records.
When confronted by the crowd that gathered upon discovery of the misconduct, the man initially claimed that he had been granted permission by the Sub-Registrar himself, Karibasavanagowda. But as pressure mounted and more questions were raised, he quickly changed his story, insisting he had merely come to drop off his father and had no official role.
Sub-Registrar Karibasavanagowda, who was away at a meeting with the District Registrar at the time, categorically denied authorizing any outsider to occupy his seat or use the official computer system. “This is completely illegal. No outsider can be allowed to sit at my desk or process government documents. I have handed charge to the FDA in my absence, not to any unauthorized individual,” he clarified to the media.
He also acknowledged the seriousness of the breach and assured that an inquiry will be launched immediately. “We are aware the person is the son of our office attender. The CCTV DVR, however, is currently with the Lokayukta Police. We will be writing to them to retrieve it and review the footage for evidence,” Karibasavanagowda added.
