Voter List Mapping Begins Ahead of Electoral Roll Revision in Karnataka

With the Election Commission of India expected to announce a Special Summary Revision of the electoral rolls in Karnataka shortly, preparatory activities are already underway across the state. As part of this process, voter list mapping is being conducted to enhance the accuracy and transparency of electoral rolls, particularly in Belagavi district.

The exercise involves linking the 2002 electoral roll with the 2025 voter list. In cases where a voter’s name does not appear in the 2002 roll, authorities are mapping records using the part number and serial number of close relatives—such as parents or grandparents—whose names were registered in 2002.

Citizens who were registered voters in 2002 have been asked to provide details of their earlier registration, including Assembly constituency name or number, part number, and serial number, to the respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Those who were not voters at that time are required to submit similar details of their parents or grandparents who were registered voters. Voters may also independently search for names in the 2002 electoral roll through the official website of the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka.

Over 65 Percent Mapping Completed in Belagavi

In Belagavi district, voter list mapping has progressed significantly, with 65.42 percent of the work completed so far. Of the total 41,85,019 voters across 18 Assembly constituencies, records of 27,37,666 voters have been successfully mapped. Verification of approximately 14.47 lakh voters remains pending.

Booth Level Officers have reported challenges, particularly in urban areas of Belagavi city, where addresses are difficult to trace, family members have migrated to other states or abroad, or voter photographs are unclear or outdated.

The mapping process is being carried out primarily through door-to-door verification, especially where discrepancies exist in the 2025 voter list. Election authorities have appealed to citizens to extend full cooperation and provide accurate information, cautioning that incorrect or incomplete details could result in deletion of names from the voter list.

Special Focus on Voters Above 40 Years

Out of the total voters in Belagavi district, 22.68 lakh voters are above the age of 40. Mapping has already been completed for 16.21 lakh voters in this category, while verification of the remaining voters is currently in progress.
