To reduce traffic congestion and prevent accidents, the Traffic Police are considering introducing a one-way traffic system on the busy road between the Central Bus Stand (CBT) and Khadebazar.
The stretch often faces heavy traffic due to narrow roads, illegal parking, and increasing numbers of vehicles. It is one of the city’s busiest routes, used by buses, auto-rickshaws, two-wheelers, cars, and pedestrians. Traffic jams are common during morning and evening peak hours, causing inconvenience to commuters.
Under the proposal, traffic from the Central Bus Stand towards Khadebazar will be one-way, while vehicles coming in the opposite direction will be diverted through other routes. The plan also includes installing or upgrading traffic signals, putting up clear signboards, controlling illegal parking, and deploying more traffic police personnel.
Before implementing the plan, the Traffic Police will seek feedback from traders, local residents, and motorists. The system is expected to be tried on a pilot basis for a few days, after which its effectiveness will be reviewed before taking a final decision.
