Anger Against the Election Commission
Mumbai: Maharashtra Forest Minister Ganesh Naik had to wait for several hours on Thursday to cast his vote in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) elections after his name was found missing from the voters’ list.
Eventually, the names of the minister and his family members were found in the voters’ list at St. Mary’s School in the Koparkhairane area, where he cast his vote along with family members Sanjeev Naik and Kalpana Naik.
“I have been voting for many years with my family members at polling booth number 94 in Navi Mumbai. However, this time I was informed that voting would take place at St. Mary’s High School. When I went there, Room No. 9, as mentioned, did not exist, and my name was not on the voters’ list. As a result, I was initially unable to vote,” Naik told the media.
He said that his family members and relatives live in the same building in Navi Mumbai, yet their names have been divided among three different polling stations, calling it a lapse on the part of the State Election Commission.
“If a minister like me faces the problem of having his name missing from the voters’ list, one can imagine the condition of ordinary voters,” he added.
