BELAGAVI: In a shocking incident that has tarnished the sanctity of the teaching profession, an enraged group of parents and local residents barged into a government school and severely thrashed a teacher for allegedly sexually harassing minor students. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Chikkodi Police Station in Belagavi district.

The police rushed to the spot upon receiving the information, rescued the accused from the public, and took him into custody.

Accused Targeted Male Students

The accused teacher has been identified as Shrishail Kumbhar, who teaches Kannada at a Government Urdu High School in the district. According to local sources, Kumbhar had been allegedly harassing male students of Class 10 over the past few days.

The matter came to light when some of the victimized students finally broke their silence and narrated their ordeal to their parents.

Lured Students with Passing Marks

Preliminary findings reveal a disturbing pattern of exploitation. The accused allegedly lured the students by promising to give them passing marks in the 10th-standard Kannada examination. Under this pretext, he would take the boys to isolated school rooms and toilets to subject them to lewd and unnatural acts.

Over 5 Students Exploited: According to current reports, more than five students have come forward, revealing they fell victim to the teacher’s continuous harassment.

Mob Fury Sparks Tension on Campus

As news of the horrific abuse spread, a wave of indignation swept through the locality. Incensed parents and members of the public descended upon the school campus in large numbers. They confronted Shrishail Kumbhar and beat him up black and blue inside the premises to vent their anger.

Police Intervene and Initiate Legal Action

Upon being alerted about the commotion and the public assault on the teacher, the Chikkodi Police immediately rushed to the scene. The officers managed to bring the volatile situation under control, pulled the bruised teacher away from the aggressive crowd, and detained him.
