Riyadh, Dec. 26: Saudi Arabia has witnessed snowfall for the first time in nearly three decades, with rare scenes of snow covering deserts and mountainous regions, according to reports.
“Global warming. Snowfall in Saudi Arabia. For many locals, this is truly a miracle, as they are seeing it for the first time in their lives,” a user posted on X.
In regions such as Jabal Al-Lawz and Trojena, temperatures dropped to minus 4 degrees Celsius, allowing snow to settle for the first time in around 30 years. Parts of the Arabian Desert in Saudi Arabia and Qatar also experienced snowfall on December 18, the Khaleej Times reported.
Meanwhile, temperatures in Iceland have risen to a record 20 degrees Celsius. On the night of December 26, the Bakkageroi region recorded a temperature of 19.7 degrees Celsius, which is about 10 degrees Celsius higher than normal, officials said.
