Bengaluru: The first crescent of the holy month of Ramadan was sighted on Wednesday, and fasting will begin from Thursday (February 19), announced Maulana Md. Imran Rashadi, Convener of the State Moon Sighting Committee.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday evening after a meeting of the Moon Sighting Committee held at the State Waqf Board office on Cunningham Road, he said that no reports of moon sighting were received from Bengaluru or other districts of the state. However, as confirmed reports of crescent sighting were received from neighbouring states including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Delhi, it has been decided to commence the observance of Ramadan from Thursday.
Maulana Mufti Iftikhar Ahmed Khan, Maulana Ejaz Ahmed, and other ulema were present at the meeting.
