CM Writes to Centre on Cylinder Shortage: State to Receive 10,000 LPG Cylinders Daily; Says Food Minister K.H. Muniyappa
Meeting held to resolve commercial cylinder crisis
Hotel owners given 1-week deadline for GAIL registration
Centre to supply 10,000 additional cylinders daily
Minister advises use of alternative fuels
Amid a severe shortage of commercial LPG cylinders in the state, Food Minister K.H. Muniyappa has convened a crucial meeting to address the issue. Following a letter written by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to the Central Government, a response has been received, and the state has decided to implement strict regulations for cylinder distribution.
Despite ongoing efforts, the commercial cylinder shortage has persisted. In response, Minister Muniyappa held a meeting with distribution officials at the office of the Food and Civil Supplies Corporation. Officials from IOC, HP, GAIL, and Bharat Petroleum were also present.
As per the new directive, hotel owners using commercial cylinders must register with GAIL within one week. Cylinders will not be supplied without proper registration. This rule has been introduced by the Central Government to curb black market activities.
The Centre has agreed to supply an additional 10,000 cylinders daily to the state. The response came after CM Siddaramaiah wrote to the Centre for the second time. The Central Government has also approved a 20% increase in cylinder allocation.
Under the revised distribution system, cylinders will be supplied once every 25 days in urban areas and once every 45 days in rural areas. The minister also urged stakeholders not to put unnecessary pressure on distributors.
He further advised hotel owners to explore alternative fuel options such as biogas, stating that reducing dependency on external sources would help ensure long-term sustainability.
