Bengaluru: The High Court has once again directed the state government to award marks instead of grades for third language subjects, including Hindi, in the SSLC examination for the academic year 2025–2026.
A single-judge bench of Justice E.S. Indiresh heard the state government’s review petition on Tuesday, which sought reconsideration of the April 15 order directing that marks be awarded instead of grades in the SSLC examination this year.
After hearing the arguments of Advocate General Shashikiran Shetty, the court observed that the rules should have been framed before issuing the examination notification. It noted that a grading system not mentioned in the official notification is now being implemented, which is not appropriate. The court stated that the government may take necessary steps after framing proper rules, but changing the evaluation system at this stage is not suitable.
Accordingly, the court directed that marks must be awarded for third language subjects, including Hindi, for the academic year 2025–2026, and disposed of the state government’s review petition.
