Belagavi: In a major political statement, Kagawad Congress MLA Bharamgouda (Raju) Kage has called for the formation of a separate North Karnataka state, citing administrative efficiency and the need for comprehensive regional development.
In a letter addressed to the President, Prime Minister, and Governor of Karnataka, Kage urged the creation of a new state comprising 15 districts — Bidar, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Bagalkote, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Koppal, Raichur, Uttara Kannada, Haveri, Vijayanagara, Ballari, and Davangere.
Kage stated that ever since the unification of Karnataka, North Karnataka has faced persistent neglect, injustice, and discrimination in several sectors. He asserted that forming a separate state would ensure the overall development of the region and become a matter of pride for Kannada people.
The MLA also extended his full support to the Uttara Karnataka Horata Samiti, which has already collected over one crore signatures and written opinions from citizens backing the statehood demand.
In his letter, Kage urged both the Union and State governments to seriously consider and recommend the establishment of a separate North Karnataka state.
Responding to media queries on Tuesday, Kage announced that he would raise the issue during the upcoming winter session in Belagavi, emphasizing that the demand reflects the long-standing aspirations of the people of North Karnataka.
