Race for Show of Strength in Chittapur — RSS, Bhim Army, and Dalit Panther Plan Rallies on the Same Day
Administration on Alert as Three Ideologically Opposed Groups Seek Permission for November 2 Marches
Tensions are rising in Chittapur taluk of Kalaburagi district as a race for show of strength through path sanchalans (march-pasts) intensifies. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Bhim Army, and Dalit Panther have all applied for permission from the district administration to hold their rallies on the same day — November 2.
Earlier, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Priyank Kharge had written to the Chief Minister urging a ban on RSS activities in public places, sparking a political row. In Kharge’s home constituency, Chittapur, the RSS had planned a path sanchalan on October 19, for which it had sought permission from local authorities. On the same day, Bhim Army and Dalit Panther had also sought permission to hold their own rallies.
However, considering possible law and order issues, the tahsildar rejected all three applications on October 18. Following this, RSS leader Ashok Patil approached the Kalaburagi Bench of the High Court, which directed that the organization could submit a fresh application for November 2 and sought a report from the district administration, adjourning the hearing to October 24.
Acting on the court’s direction, RSS leaders submitted their new application on October 19 through WhatsApp and email, followed by an official written request. According to reports, around 600 swayamsevaks (volunteers) are expected to take part in the march carrying lathis (sticks).
Meanwhile, the Bhim Army Bharat Ekta Mission’s state youth wing has also sought permission for its “Bhim Path Sanchalan” on the same date, stating that its peaceful procession will include bamboo sticks, the national flag, the Buddhist Panchsheel flag, and the Preamble of the Indian Constitution.
With three ideologically opposing groups preparing for simultaneous rallies, the situation has become a major challenge for the Chittapur administration, which is now working to ensure peace and prevent any untoward incidents.
