Belagavi: The BJP Belagavi City District Mahila Morcha has strongly demanded that Director General of Police (DGP) K. Ramachandra Rao be dismissed from service outright instead of being merely suspended, following allegations of indecent behaviour with a woman while in uniform at his office. The organisation has also demanded the immediate arrest of Rajegouda of Shildghatta.
Office-bearers and activists of the BJP Belagavi City District Mahila Morcha gathered at the Belagavi District Collector’s Office premises on Wednesday morning and submitted a memorandum to the District Collector under the leadership of District President Dr. Nayana Bhasme, General Secretary Sheela Gadkari, and BJP leader Dr. Sonali Sarnobat. In the absence of the District Collector, the memorandum was accepted by his assistant, who assured appropriate action.
The memorandum states that although the State Government has suspended DGP K. Ramachandra Rao for allegedly blackmailing and behaving indecently with a vulnerable woman who had approached the police to lodge a complaint, suspension alone is insufficient and he should be dismissed from service. It further notes that despite an FIR being registered six days ago against Rajegouda, who allegedly used abusive language and threatened to set the Shildghatta Municipal Council on fire while speaking to Municipal Commissioner Amrit Gaud, no arrest has yet been made. The Mahila Morcha has therefore demanded his immediate arrest and strict legal action.
Speaking to the media after submitting the memorandum, BJP leader Dr. Sonali Sarnobat said that a video of DGP K. Ramachandra Rao has gone viral, in which he is seen behaving indecently with a woman inside his office. “We strongly condemn this behaviour on behalf of the BJP Mahila Morcha. Merely suspending him is not enough; stricter punishment must be imposed and justice must be ensured for the victim,” she said.
She further questioned how ordinary women can feel safe if senior police officers themselves indulge in such conduct. “When women who approach the police seeking justice are subjected to such indecent behaviour, it forces them to hide their faces in shame. Women’s safety has become a serious concern,” she said, alleging that under the present Congress government, women in the state have become increasingly unsafe and a situation of lawlessness prevails.
