The State Government has declared that the Winter Session of the Assembly will take place at the Suvarna Vidhan Soudha in Belagavi from December 9 to December 20. The Ministry of Law and Parliamentary Affairs has confirmed that the proposal to convene this session has been submitted to Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot for his approval.
In a significant historical commemoration, the government is also organizing events to celebrate the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi’s speech at the 39th Congress session in Belagavi, which occurred on December 26–27, 1924. To honor this landmark event, a Congress session is scheduled to be held in Belagavi on the same dates this year.
Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader and Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti recently convened a preparatory meeting with officials to facilitate the effective execution of the Winter Session and associated commemorative events.
During a press briefing, Khader underscored the necessity of substantial MLA attendance for this session. He pledged that considerable time would be allocated to address critical issues concerning North Karnataka. “In the previous session, the involvement of MLAs in discussions was praiseworthy, and we anticipate a similar level of participation this time,” he remarked.
The government is also organizing specialized awareness initiatives aimed at enhancing the experience for students visiting the Suvarna Vidhan Soudha during the session. Khader further emphasized the importance of ensuring smooth arrangements, which include accommodations, meals, water, and refreshments for ministers, MLAs, and support personnel such as drivers, police officers, and officials. Additionally, protest sites will be equipped with sufficient facilities to accommodate demonstrators without interfering with the proceedings.
