NEW DELHI/BELAGAVI – A potentially fatal medical emergency aboard a Goa to Delhi flight was averted on Friday thanks to the swift and decisive intervention of Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar, former Khanapur MLA and AICC Secretary (Goa in-charge).

​Dr. Nimbalkar, a medical professional by training, is being hailed as a hero after saving the life of a young American woman who collapsed mid-flight.

Emergency at 30,000 Feet

The incident occurred shortly after takeoff when the passenger began shivering uncontrollably before fainting and losing her pulse. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Dr. Nimbalkar immediately stepped forward to assist the cabin crew.

​According to eyewitness accounts, Dr. Nimbalkar performed emergency Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), successfully reviving the passenger. However, the situation remained critical as the woman collapsed a second time approximately 30 minutes later. Dr. Nimbalkar intervened once again, stabilizing the passenger and bringing her pulse back for a second time.

For the remainder of the flight, the former MLA remained by the passenger’s side, monitoring her vitals and ensuring she remained stable. She also coordinated directly with the flight crew to ensure an ambulance was waiting on the tarmac in Delhi, allowing for an immediate transfer to a hospital upon landing.

Ovation from Passengers

The tense atmosphere on the plane turned to relief and gratitude as the flight landed safely. The pilot, crew, and fellow passengers commended Dr. Nimbalkar for her presence of mind. Reports state that many passengers gave her a standing ovation for her life-saving actions.
